01 Aug Excess sweating / Hyperhidrosis
There is an answer to excessive sweating! At ByronMediSpa we can help, but first let us understand hyperhidrosis.
Excessive sweating or primary focal hyperhidrosis refers to sweating that is not caused by another medical condition, nor is it a side effect of medications. This type of sweating occurs on very specific areas of the body (described as focal areas) and is usually relatively “symmetric” meaning that both the left and right sides of the body are affected similarly. The most common focal areas are the sweaty hands, sweaty feet, sweaty underarms, and sweaty face or head. (Notice that we say ‘and’ when we list the focal areas? That’s because most people with hyperhidrosis experience excessive sweating on more than one area–especially those with sweaty palms, they almost always also have sweaty feet.)
Very fine injections of Purified Protein have been used with almost 100% success to treat axillary hyperhidrosis for several years now.
At ByronMediSpa we locate the overactive sweat glands by using iodine and starch. Once the area has been cleaned and prepared, small injections with a very fine needle are given. These sting a little bit but each area treatment will take only 5-10 mins. Afterwards you will be able to go home or back to work and carry on with your day as normal.
The effects of the treatment will usually start within a couple of weeks. A complimentary review will take place after four weeks and further treatment will be provided if necessary. Many people benefit for about 4-6 months, so they tend to budget for 2-3 treatments a year.
